Cluster mode to reach health services to rural areas



Aim is to bring down the Infant mortality rate from 50 to 30 per 1000, says official
Maternal mortality rate from 150 per lakh to 100 in the next two years

ONGOLE: The entire rural Andhra Pradesh will be delineated into Community Health and Nutrition Clusters (CHNC) from April to reach health services to the rural population in a decentralised way.
“All PHCs will run 24x7 and every PHC will have two Medical Officers, two Additional Nurses (NRHM). All PHCs will be fully-equipped'', State Medical and Health Principal Secretary P.V.Ramesh, who reviewed health issues with district officials, told reporters here.
Relocation of 3,500 medical staff was going on for the purpose and the same would be completed in a month, he added. For the benefit of the public, the visits of the PHC Medical officer and also the types of health services would be put on notice at the Gram Panchayat offices, he said.
“Our aim is to bring down the Infant mortality rate from 50 to 30 per 1000 and maternal mortality rate from 150 per lakh to 100 in the next two years by improving the health delivery system'', he said. Running of the 104 health service would be outsourced and clubbed with PHC outreach Services and every PHC Medical officer would be provided with focussed tasks.
The sub-centres would be strengthened by appointing one Deputy District Medical and Health Officer for every four PHCs, Dr. Ramesh said, adding efforts would be on disease prevention by educating the public on ideal lifestyle.
